Taking the MBTI®Full Assessment
Here’s how it works
Thank you for your interest in taking the full MBTI ® assessment. You will probably have already looked at the simple personality quiz on the How To Change Careers website and looked at the information on the site and may have read more in the ebook, Know Your Personality, Know Your Career. Both of these sources of information will have given you some insight into your personality and a good introduction to the MBTI® tool and will have probably whetted your appetite for more! As a careers professional, I trained to use the MBTI ® instrument with the UK based Oxford Psychologists Press and I use their online services to give you access to the full MBTI® assessment.
So what do you get with the full assessment?
You will be emailed a much more detailed questionnaire to complete. It is divided into 3 sections and has 88 questions in all. All the questions ask you to select between two options. Your responses to these 'forced choices' helps to narrow down exactly where your preferences lie. You will probably find it difficult to choose with some of these, but I suggest you always try and make your best guess. It is important to answer the questions as you instinctively respond, and try to avoid giving the answer your think you 'should' be giving, or how you would like to be. This is about getting at the real you. When you receive the questionnaire from me, you should save it onto your computer. When you have some quiet time to do the questionnaire thoughtfully, open it up and use the Select button to make your choices for each question. Save it again and then email it back to Oxford Psychologists Press (OPP) using the address you will be given. You should get a reply within 30 minutes to indicate that your questionnaire has been received. OPP will generate your personalised report from your responses and they send it to me first of all and I then pass it on to you.
Your personalised MBTI® Interpretative Report - Type in Organisations
You will receive a 10 page report that has been produced specifically for you from the responses you gave on your questionnaire. The focus of the report is how your type preferences will relate to the way you operate in work environments. The report includes: An explanation of your personal MBTI® assessment results. A description of your preferred work style. An indication of: - What you contribute at work
- What your leadership style is like
- What kind of work environment you will be more comfortable with
- Your preferred learning style
- The challenges and pitfalls that may arise from your preferences
- Suggestions for personal development
In relation to each letter of your type: - Your work preferences
- Your communication style
Information about the impact of the order of your preferences – which ones are dominant and how stress can draw out your less preferred behaviour patterns. Details of how type will influence your approach to problem solving - very relevant to career change and job search!
The benefits of the full assessment
The full assessment has been developed by qualified occupational psychologists and has been tested rigorously over many years. It means you can be sure that the questions are well designed to measure your personality preferences and you will get an accurate and informative result. The results are generally pretty true to life, and most people taking the MBTI® assessment agree with at least 3 out of 4 of the preference types that are reported. With the results of a full MBTI® assessment, you can be confident that you are using an accurate assessment of your personality as part of your overall career change planning. But remember that the results will depend partly on the way you respond to the questions. If you complete the questionnaire in a hurry without much thought, then you are less likely to get an accurate reflection of your real preferences. At the end of the day, the best judge of your true personality will always be you!
